& Attitudes Toward Self-Checkout Systems

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine public library borrowers' responses to and experiences with self-checkout terminals introduced in Canadian public libraries. The goal is to determine if there are ways of making self-checkout systems a better option for the borrower and to determine if self-checkout systems are a viable and useful system for public libraries. Data collection will be through semi-structured interviews with two groups of 18 borrowers. This study will benefit the field of Library and Information Studies by further developing qualitative research and by filling a gap left by primarily quanititative research.
