Conclusion

Thesaurus construction is a subjective process that varies with each creator. The building of this thesaurus followed the guidelines of facet analysis and term selection as discussed in class. Concepts were pulled from subject statements and arranged into fundamental categories. Subject areas were created and main facets were placed under those areas accordingly. Terms were then selected and Broader Terms, Narrower Terms, and Related Terms relationships were structured. The result is a small thesaurus for a library and information science collection intended for library and information science students, faculty members, and librarians. Thesaurus construction is an art that will gradually be improved, though not perfected, with time.
